Dresden Frauenkirche (Germany)

Weather…

The Dresden Frauenkirche is a memorable Baroque church designed by architect George Bähr and completed in 1743, standing as a testament to Saxon architectural brilliance. Following the devastating aerial bombings of February 1945, the building collapsed, and its ruins remained in the center of Dresden for decades as a somber memorial of the Second World War. The monumental task of reconstruction began in 1994 after the German reunification, supported by a global fundraising campaign and advanced computer-aided archaeological techniques. Thousands of original stones were recovered from the rubble and reintegrated into the structure, creating a unique mosaic of old and new masonry. Since its reconsecration in 2005, the church has become a powerful international symbol of peace, reconciliation, and civic determination. Visitors can admire its ornate interior or climb to the dome's viewing platform for panoramic views of the Elbe River and the historic city center.
