St. Michaelis Hamburg (Germany)

Weather…

The St. Michaelis main church, affectionately known as the 'Michel', is Hamburg's most famous church and a key landmark of the Hanseatic city. It is regarded as the most significant Baroque church in Northern Germany and is dedicated to the Archangel Michael, whose bronze statue above the main portal depicts his victory over the devil. The iconic 132-meter-high tower, with its distinctive copper dome, has served as a vital navigation point for sailors on the Elbe for centuries. After suffering several destructions by lightning, fire, and war, the church was repeatedly rebuilt to its original design, most recently following World War II. Its impressive, light-filled interior can accommodate over 2,500 people and features five different organs. Of particular note is the crypt, one of the largest in Europe, which now serves as a venue for exhibitions and services. The tower’s observation deck gives an unparalleled panoramic view of the harbor, the Speicherstadt, and the entire city of Hamburg.
