Hamburg City Hall (Germany)

Weather…

The Hamburg City Hall (Rathaus) is the seat of the Parliament and the Senate of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. It was constructed between 1886 and 1897 in a grand Neo-Renaissance style after the old city hall was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1842. The building impresses with its monumental facade, adorned by statues of 20 German emperors, and a tower reaching 112 meters in height. The interior features a total of 647 rooms, many of which are used for representative purposes, such as the imposing Grand Ballroom. The courtyard of the city hall houses the Hygieia Fountain, which commemorates the cholera epidemic of 1892. As a symbol of civic freedom and economic strength, the structure was built on a foundation of over 4,000 oak piles in the swampy ground near the Alsterfleet. The City Hall is not only an administrative center but also a venue for state receptions and cultural events. It is regarded as one of the best-preserved and most magnificent government buildings in all of Germany.
