August Pine Ridge is a significant village in the Orange Walk District, located approximately 13 miles southwest of Orange Walk Town. The geography of the area is characterized by subtropical pine savanna, typical of the northern Belizean lowlands. Historically, the settlement's roots date back to at least the late 19th century, with records from 1887 mentioning local administrative appointments. Between 1917 and 1928, the village hosted a notable Catholic mission, which played a major role in its social development. Today, the economy is almost entirely driven by the sugar industry, with most residents working as sugar cane farmers supplying the Tower Hill factory. Culturally, August Pine Ridge is a predominantly Mestizo community where Spanish is the primary language, alongside English and Belizean Creole. With an estimated population of over 2,160 in 2022, the village has become an important rural hub in the north. The community maintains strong ties to its agricultural heritage, celebrated through annual village festivities.
