Weather…

The Biertan Fortified Church is one of the most significant and well-preserved architectural ensembles in Transylvania, designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1993. Constructed in the late Gothic style between 1486 and 1524, the hall church sits atop a hill protected by three concentric rings of fortification walls, nine towers, and several bastions. Its interior houses the largest multi-paneled winged altar in Transylvania, featuring 28 painted scenes created in the late 15th century. A marvel of medieval engineering is the sacristy door, dated 1515, which features a complex locking mechanism with 15 bolts that won a prize at the 1900 Paris World Expo. A unique historical feature is the 'marital prison' tower, where couples seeking divorce were confined with only one bed and one set of cutlery to encourage reconciliation. For nearly 300 years, Biertan served as the seat of the Lutheran Evangelical Bishopric in Transylvania, making it a pivotal religious and social center for the Saxon community.
