Sibiu International Theatre Festival (Romania)

Weather…

The Sibiu International Theatre Festival (FITS) is widely regarded as the third most important performing arts festival in Europe, following Edinburgh and Avignon. Founded in 1993 by actor Constantin Chiriac, it has evolved from a small theater gathering into a massive global cultural phenomenon. For ten days each year, the medieval city of Sibiu is transformed into an animated stage, hosting over 500 events across approximately 70 venues, including theaters, churches, and open squares. The diverse program features drama, dance, music, contemporary circus, and spectacular street performances involving thousands of artists from over 70 countries. The festival was a key driver in Sibiu's successful bid for European Capital of Culture in 2007. By blending traditional arts with experimental forms, FITS fosters deep intercultural dialogue and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors annually, making it a cornerstone of Romania's cultural diplomacy.
