The San Antonio sugar mill is one of the largest sugar mills in Central America and a center of Nicaraguan agro-industry. In addition to sugar, it produces bioethanol and energy solutions, employing thousands of workers in the region.
Visiting
The factory is typically not open to the public, but the vast grounds and sugarcane fields are visible from the main road. Visitors may occasionally join organized tours.
Where to view it
The best public view of the plant is from the Carretera Panamericana, which passes directly by the facility. From the nearby hills of Chichigalpa, a panoramic view over the entire industrial complex opens up.
