The 17th Industrial Heritage Protection Conference was held to mark the 181st anniversary of the local iron and steel industry. The event highlighted the city's historical significance as a former metallurgical center.
Ózd is a historic industrial town in northern Hungary, whose identity was shaped for over 150 years by coal mining and ironworking. The establishment of the ironworks in 1845 catalyzed rapid growth, making Ózd one of the most important metallurgical centers in the country. Following the decline of heavy industry in the 1990s, the town faced significant economic challenges and had to reinvent itself. A substantial portion of its industrial heritage has since been preserved and repurposed into cultural venues, such as the National Digital Archive and the Film History Adventure Park, located in renovated factory buildings. The town is surrounded by the scenic slopes of the Bükk Mountains and the Heves-Borsod hills, which now offer growing opportunities for outdoor tourism. Today, Ózd serves as a poignant symbol of urban structural change, honoring its industrial past while forging a new identity through culture and technology.
