Kazincbarcika relegated from the first division football league

Following a defeat against MTK Budapest, Kazincbarcika's relegation from the Hungarian top flight has been confirmed. The bottom-placed team dropped to the second division after a series of losses and a long goal drought.

Kazincbarcika is a modern industrial city in northern Hungary, formed in the mid-20th century through the unification of several smaller villages. The city development is inextricably linked to the rise of the chemical industry, particularly the founding of BorsodChem in 1949. During the socialist era, it was designed as a model socialist city, characterized by functionalist architecture, wide boulevards, and organized residential districts. In recent decades, however, the city has undergone a creative rebirth and is now proudly known as the City of Colors (Kolorcity). Through an innovative urban art project, dozens of apartment building facades have been adorned with large-scale colorful murals created by contemporary artists. This initiative has successfully transformed the industrial landscape into an animated and livable environment. Located in the Sajó Valley, the city also serves as a regional cultural and educational hub, prioritizing green spaces and high-quality sports facilities for its residents.
