Langue is a town in Valle Department in the dry south of Honduras, located roughly between the Pacific coast on the Gulf of Fonseca and the Choluteca uplands. The region is marked by hot weather, strong dry seasons and sandy, savanna-like landscapes. The local economy is based on corn and sorghum, cattle ranching, cashew nuts, sesame and small-scale forestry. Langue acts as a market town for surrounding villages, so its main streets and the market regularly fill with farming families from nearby areas. The town center features a classic plaza, the parish church and a number of small businesses. In terms of transport Langue lies on important cross-routes of the southern region, which supports local commerce. The town is a typical example of a market town in Honduras's dry southern zone.
