Bremen Roland & Town Hall (Germany)

Weather…

The Bremen Roland and the Town Hall on the market square form a unique ensemble that has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2004. Erected in 1404, the Roland statue is the world's most significant symbol of civic liberty and market rights within the Holy Roman Empire. Standing 5.47 meters tall (over 10 meters including the canopy), the limestone figure faces St. Peter's Cathedral directly. The adjacent Town Hall was built between 1405 and 1410 in the Gothic style and was expanded in the 17th century with its magnificent Weser Renaissance facade. Inside, the Upper Town Hall chamber impresses as one of Germany's most beautiful ceremonial halls. Beneath the Town Hall lies the Bremer Ratskeller, a historical institution featuring over 600 varieties of wine and Germany's oldest cask wine dating back to 1653. To this day, the Town Hall remains the seat of the Mayor and the Senate of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen.
