The Bremen Freimarkt is one of Germany's oldest and largest folk festivals, held on the Bürgerweide since the year 1035. Emperor Conrad II granted the city market rights at that time, allowing it to hold a market twice a year where anyone could trade freely. Today, the 17-day spectacle in October attracts approximately four million visitors annually. During this time, the Bürgerweide transforms into a massive amusement park with over 300 showmen, state-of-the-art rides, and traditional festival tents. A special highlight is the Freimarkt parade, the largest carnival parade in Northern Germany, featuring numerous colorful floats and musical groups. The motto 'Ischa Freimaak!' (It's Freimarkt!) is the traditional battle cry that puts the entire city in a festive mood. Concurrently, the 'Little Freimarkt' is held on the market square, offering historical charm and traditional craft stalls.
