National Palace of El Salvador
The National Palace of El Salvador is located in the historic center of San Salvador and is considered one of the country's most significant architectural monuments. The current building was constructed between 1905 and 1911 under the direction of architect Pascasio González, after the original palace was destroyed by a fire in 1889. Its architecture blends Neoclassical, Neogothic, and Renaissance elements, with much of the construction material imported from Europe. Inside, the palace houses four main halls named after colors: the Red Room for ceremonial purposes, the Blue Room as the former seat of the Legislative Assembly, the Yellow Room for presidential affairs, and the Pink Room for the Supreme Court. Today, the building serves as a National Archive and museum, documenting El Salvador's political history. The intricate floor tiles from Italy and detailed ceiling paintings highlight the representative character of this national landmark, which was declared a national monument in 1974.
