Liberty Plaza
Libertad Plaza, or Liberty Plaza, is widely considered the cradle of Salvadoran independence, marking the site where the first movement for autonomy began in 1811. At the center of the plaza stands the majestic Monument to Liberty, which was inaugurated in 1911 to commemorate the centenary of the first "shout of independence." Designed by the Italian sculptor Francisco Durini and the architect Ferracuti, the monument features bronze and marble figures representing the struggle for freedom. The plaza has served as the stage for many of the most important political and social events in the country's history, acting as the symbolic heart of the capital. Surrounded by historic buildings and bustling city life, it remains a popular meeting point for locals and tourists alike. Recent renovations have revitalized the space, preserving its historical integrity while making it a modern hub for cultural expression.
