Guayabal is a remote and fascinating mountain municipality in the Azua province, located deep within the Cordillera Central. Due to its geographic isolation, the town has preserved its authentic character and an untouched natural landscape. The municipality was officially established in 2004 and spans rugged terrain with significant elevation changes. The economy is almost entirely specialized in high-altitude agriculture, with coffee, beans, and avocados being the primary products. Guayabal is known for its numerous rivers and streams that flow into the Yaque del Sur, making the region a vital water conservation area. Access to the town is challenging, which has favored the development of low-impact ecotourism for hikers and nature enthusiasts. The community is strongly rural and maintains traditions that have already disappeared in other parts of the country. The climate is subtropical moist and significantly milder than in the hot coastal plains of Azua.
