Loma del Capiro is a historically significant hill located within the city of Santa Clara, central Cuba, consisting of a group of three small elevations. Standing at approximately 176 meters above sea level, it has a strategic vantage point over the entire city and its surroundings. The site achieved international fame during the Battle of Santa Clara in December 1958, when forces led by Che Guevara captured the hill to secure control over the city and derail Batista's famous armored train (Tren Blindado). Today, the hill is recognized as a National Monument of Cuba and features a monumental sculpture at its summit commemorating these pivotal events of the Cuban Revolution. Geologically, the hill forms part of the foothills of the Escambray massif and is noted for its serpentinite rock formations. Beyond its historical importance, the area now functions as a popular space for recreation and public celebrations, with a wide staircase providing easy access for visitors to reach the summit.
