Mintia Power Plant (Romania)

Weather…

The Mintia power plant, located on the banks of the Mureș River near Deva, is currently undergoing the most ambitious transformation in its energy history. After decades of operating on hard coal from the Jiu Valley, the plant was acquired in 2022 to be converted into the largest and most modern gas-fired power station in the European Union. The new project foresees next-generation combined-cycle turbines with a capacity of more than 1,700 MW, which will double the plant's historical output. This investment of more than 1 billion euros is essential for the stability of the national energy system, offering a clean and flexible alternative to coal. Mintia will play a crucial role in balancing the intermittency of renewable energy, ensuring power supply security in western Romania and supporting the country's committed decarbonization path.
