The city’s official event calendar lists Iancu de Hunedoara Days as a multi-day public program at the end of July.
Hunedoara is home to the formidable Corvin Castle, widely regarded as one of the most impressive examples of Gothic and Renaissance architecture in Eastern Europe. Originally established as a fortification in the 14th century, it was transformed into a majestic residence by John Hunyadi in the 1400s. The castle features towering defensive structures, drawbridges, and intricately decorated halls such as the Knight's Hall and the Diet Hall. Local lore tells of a 30-meter-deep well in the courtyard, supposedly dug by Turkish prisoners over 15 years in exchange for a freedom that was ultimately denied. During the 20th century, the city underwent a significant transformation into a heavy industrial hub, dominated by massive steelworks that shaped its modern identity. Today, Hunedoara attracts visitors from around the globe who come to explore the corridors of the castle and discover the fascinating history of the Hunyadi dynasty and the medieval roots of Transylvania.
