The battle is considered a symbol of national resistance and the defense of Central American sovereignty against foreign invaders. A particularly well-known event is the heroic deed of Andrés Castro, who killed an attacker with a stone when he ran out of ammunition. Today, the main building of the hacienda serves as a museum displaying weapons, documents, and artifacts from the period of the National War. The monument is located approximately 42 kilometers north of Managua and becomes the site of major patriotic celebrations every September.
