Luis Alfonso Velásquez Flores Park is the largest and most important green space in the historic center of Managua. Spanning an area of more than 14 city blocks, the park is named after a nine-year-old boy who became a hero during the Nicaraguan revolution. Following a comprehensive renovation in 2011, the park was developed into a modern sports and recreation center, featuring basketball courts, soccer fields, and a roller-skating rink. A special attraction is the artificial lake where visitors can rent small boats, as well as the impressive fountains and extensive play areas. The park gives an oasis of tranquility in the middle of the bustling capital and is a popular meeting point for families from all walks of life.
