Edelény Palace (Hungary)

Weather…

The L'Huillier-Coburg Palace in Edelény is one of Hungary's largest and most unique Baroque residences, uniquely situated on an island in the Bódva River. Construction began in 1716 under Jean-François L'Huillier, a French general in imperial service, and was completed by 1730. The palace features a distinctive seven-wing layout and four corner towers, blending the elegance of a manor house with the structural robustness of a fortress. Its most significant treasure is the series of Rococo frescoes painted in 1770 by Lieb Ferenc, covering six rooms with vivid depictions of 18th-century aristocratic life and allegorical scenes. In the 19th century, the estate was acquired by the House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, who utilized it as an administrative hub for their vast landholdings. Following a comprehensive restoration completed in 2014, the palace now serves as a major cultural attraction with interactive exhibits and restored period interiors.
