San Raymundo is a tradition-rich municipality located in the northern part of the Guatemala Department, about 32 kilometers from the capital city. The town's history began in the 17th century, founded around 1650 by Spanish colonists and indigenous communities. Geographically, San Raymundo is situated in a mountainous region at an elevation of approximately 1570 meters, leading to a cool highland climate. A unique feature of the town is its centuries-old tradition of manufacturing fireworks and pyrotechnic products, which are highly sought after throughout Guatemala for religious festivals and celebrations. In addition to pyrotechnics, agriculture, particularly the cultivation of vegetables and grains, plays a central role in the local economy. Despite its proximity to the capital, San Raymundo has maintained a quiet, rural character, with its colonial church in the center serving as an important architectural heritage. Every year in August, the community celebrates its patron saint, Saint Raymond Nonnatus, with colorful parades and spectacular fireworks that demonstrate the locals' craftsmanship.
