San José Pinula is a rapidly growing municipality in the Guatemala Department, located approximately 22 kilometers southeast of the capital city. Historically, the settlement was closely tied to Santa Catarina Pinula until it administratively separated on October 1, 1886, eventually gaining official municipality status in 1922. Situated on a high plateau at an elevation of about 1750 meters, the town enjoys a cool and pleasant climate, making it an attractive location for commuters from Guatemala City. Traditionally, the region was famous for its productive dairy farming and grain cultivation, but recent decades have seen massive urbanization. Today, the cityscape is dominated by modern residential complexes, shopping centers, and industrial facilities, making San José Pinula a key suburb in the metropolitan area. Despite this transformation, the town maintains its cultural roots, most visible every March during the festivities honoring its patron saint, Saint Joseph. The municipality also serves as a gateway to the eastern mountain regions, providing excellent connectivity to major transport routes.
