Guatemala Valley (Guatemala)

Weather…

The Guatemala Valley, also known as the Valley of the Hermitage (Valle de la Ermita), is the geographic and political heart of the country. Located at an average elevation of 1,500 meters in the central highlands, it hosts Guatemala City, the most populous metropolis in Central America. The valley was selected as the site for the capital in 1776 after the previous capital, Antigua, was devastated by severe earthquakes. Surrounded by the Agua, Fuego, Acatenango, and Pacaya volcanoes, the region is characterized by high tectonic activity and fertile volcanic soils. Geologically, it is a graben structure rich in volcanic pumice and ash deposits. Today, the valley is a pulsating center for commerce, culture, and industry, while simultaneously grappling with the challenges of rapid urbanization and geological risks.
