The Frauenkirche, officially the Cathedral of Our Dear Lady, is the unmistakable landmark of Munich, the capital of Bavaria. This late Gothic brick basilica was constructed in the 15th century within a record-breaking timeframe of just 20 years, under the guidance of master builder Jörg von Halsbach. Its two towers, standing nearly 100 meters tall, are particularly distinctive for their iconic 'onion' domes, which were added in 1525. Inside, the cathedral impresses with its airy height and houses significant artistic treasures, such as the cenotaph of Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. A well-known legend surrounds the 'Devil's Footstep' in the entrance hall, a mysterious black footprint on the floor. Despite suffering severe damage during World War II, the church was meticulously restored and currently serves as the cathedral for the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising.
