Rosenheim has a highly scenic location at the confluence of the Inn and Mangfall rivers, framed by a dramatic backdrop of the Bavarian Alps. The Max-Josefs-Platz in the heart of the old town is lined with magnificent patrician houses featuring the region's distinct Inn-Salzach architectural facades, where historic arcades shelter a variety of inviting street cafes. The Lokschuppen exhibition center is renowned far beyond the region; housed in a meticulously restored 19th-century railway depot, it hosts spectacular temporary exhibitions on history, nature, and culture. At the Inn Museum, located in a historic water management depot, visitors can delve into the centuries-old legacy of river navigation and timber rafting. Television fans might also recognize the streets as the authentic filming location for the popular German crime series "Die Rosenheim-Cops". Its close proximity to Lake Chiemsee makes the city a premier starting point for alpine hiking and cycling tours.
