Highlights of 2026

7

The Allianz Arena in northern Munich opened on May 30, 2005, and is among the most modern football stadiums in the world. Its architectural highlight is the exterior facade, which consists of 2,760 ETFE foil cushions that can be individually illuminated in red, blue, or white. The stadium was designed by the renowned Swiss architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. It has a capacity for up to 75,000 spectators and serves as the home ground for FC Bayern Munich. The arena was a key venue for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, including the opening match, and hosted the 2012 UEFA Champions League final. Inside, visitors can find the FC Bayern Erlebniswelt, Germany's largest club museum, which documents the success story of the record-breaking champions. Due to its distinctive shape, often referred to as the 'inflatable boat,' and its innovative lighting concept, the stadium is visible from a great distance on the A9 motorway.
