📋 Practical info

🧭
Getting there
The photogenic island is accessible almost exclusively by boat from the coastal towns of Dangriga or Hopkins. The crossing through the reef normally takes about half an hour to an hour, depending on water conditions and the type of boat used.
📅
Best season
The dry season months from February to May are generally considered the most pleasant period for a visit. During this time, the Caribbean water is often particularly clear, which guarantees excellent conditions for snorkeling and diving.
⛰️
Terrain & paths
The island has soft, flat sandy beaches that are fringed by typical coconut palms and small tropical shrubs. The surrounding waters deepen gradually, leading swimmers directly to fascinating coral formations of the barrier reef.
🎒
What to bring
Basic equipment definitely includes UV-protective clothing, reef-safe sunscreen, and your own snorkeling gear. Water shoes can also be quite useful to protect your feet from sharp coral fragments and sea urchins in the shallow waters.
🅿️
Parking
Since there are no cars on the island, vehicles must be left on the mainland in the towns of Dangriga or Hopkins. Many tour operators and marinas have guarded parking lots where you can securely leave your car for the duration of the trip.
⚠️
Safety
Although the calm water is well-suited for swimming, visitors should always pay attention to changing ocean currents and boat traffic. Touching the sensitive corals is not only harmful to the reef ecosystem, but it can also be very painful.
⏱️
Time needed
Many travelers opt for an extended day trip lasting from the morning until the late afternoon hours. Those who want to truly enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the island often book a stay of several days in one of the local rustic lodges.
