Rolleville is a historic settlement located in the northern part of Great Exuma in the Bahamas. The town is deeply connected to the Loyalist era and was named after Lord John Rolle, a British landowner who operated vast plantations on the island in the 18th century. A unique aspect of Rolleville's history is that Lord Rolle bequeathed his lands to his former slaves upon his death, resulting in many residents still carrying the surname Rolle today. Geographically, the settlement is situated on an elevation, offering expansive views over the Exuma Cays and the shallow, crystal-clear waters. The architecture includes several historic remains of plantation buildings and the characteristic hilltop church. Today, Rolleville is a lively community proud of its cultural heritage, celebrating annual traditional regattas and festivals. The economy relies on agriculture and fishing, with tourism becoming increasingly important due to nearby luxury resorts and pristine beaches.
