Gamboa Sloth Sanctuary (Panama)

Weather…

The Sloth Sanctuary in Gamboa, operated in collaboration with the Pan-American Conservation Association (APPC), is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and release of sloths. These slow animals are often injured by power lines, attacked by dogs, or isolated from their habitat by deforestation. At the sanctuary, the animals receive medical care and learn to find food independently again in safe, tree-covered enclosures. Visitors can respectfully observe the three-toed and two-toed sloths from a distance, while guides explain the slow metabolism and ecological niche of these fascinating mammals. The center's goal is to release every healthy animal back into the adjacent national parks.
