Summit Municipal Park (Panama)

Weather…

Summit Municipal Park is a botanical garden and zoo established in 1923 by the U.S. canal company. Located in the humid foothills of Soberanía National Park on the outskirts of Panama City, the 250-hectare park originally served as an agricultural research station to test the tropical suitability of crops from around the world, such as teak and various mango varieties. Today, the park is the primary conservation center for Panama's wildlife, housing the famous Harpy Eagle (Águila Arpía), Panama's massive national bird, in a special large enclosure. Summit Park is heavily involved in environmental education for schoolchildren and rescues confiscated or injured wildlife like jaguars, tapirs, and toucans.
