Cerro Gaitancillo is a smaller mountain peak near El Valle de Antón, also referred to as the 'little brother' of Cerro Gaital. The mountain is part of the rim of the huge volcanic crater and is clearly visible from the valley. Although it is lower than some of the surrounding mountains, the trail to the summit gives a pleasant hike that is less strenuous than climbing the larger peaks. The slopes of Cerro Gaitancillo are covered by secondary forests and more open, grassy areas. The summit has beautiful views of a part of the valley and the surrounding landforms. This mountain is also part of the network that supports local biodiversity, providing habitat and a corridor for smaller animals. It is a popular destination for locals and less experienced hikers.
