Getting there
Access to the crater is via well-maintained roads from the Inter-American Highway, leading directly into the town of El Valle de Anton. Public buses and tour shuttles operate frequently from Panama City.
Best season
The valley is pleasant year-round due to its higher elevation, but the dry season from December to April is good for hiking. During the rainy season, the surrounding mountains are exceptionally lush and green.
Terrain & paths
The crater floor is relatively flat and inhabited, while the surrounding rim features rugged mountain trails with varying levels of difficulty. Scenic viewpoints offer vistas of the caldera and lush forests.
What to bring
