Biedermann House
The Biedermann House in Schellenberg is the oldest surviving farmhouse in Liechtenstein and a jewel of regional architectural culture. Dendrochronological studies date the construction to the year 1518, meaning the house is over 500 years old. It was built using traditional log construction (Blockbau), characteristic of the Alpine region in the late Middle Ages. Originally constructed at a different location in Schellenberg, it was dismantled in 1993 during a spectacular preservation effort and moved to its current site near the cemetery to save it from decay. Today, the house serves as an annex of the Liechtenstein National Museum, showcasing rural living and farming practices. Visitors can explore the original parlors, kitchen, and sleeping chambers, which offer an authentic insight into the harsh life of past centuries. The nail-less construction and the use of solid fir wood bear witness to the high level of craftsmanship of the carpenters of that era. The Biedermann House is not just an architectural monument but also a place of living history, symbolizing the population's deep connection to the land and tradition.
