Vajdahunyad Castle, located in Budapest's City Park (Városliget), is a unique architectural marvel built at the end of the 19th century to honor the millennium of the Hungarian conquest. Originally constructed in 1896 from wood and cardboard as a temporary backdrop for the Millennial Exhibition, its immense popularity led the city to rebuild it permanently in stone and brick between 1904 and 1908. Architect Ignác Alpár designed the complex to blend various architectural styles, Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque, with each section being a replica of famous historical buildings from across the historical Kingdom of Hungary. Its namesake is the replica of the Hunyad (Corvin) Castle in Transylvania. Today, the castle houses the Hungarian Agricultural Museum, the largest of its kind in Europe. In the inner courtyard stands the enigmatic statue of 'Anonymous', the unknown chronicler of King Béla III, whose pen visitors touch for good luck. Surrounded by a scenic lake that serves as an ice rink in winter, the castle remains one of Budapest's most romantic and educational landmarks.
