City Park (Hungary)

Weather…

City Park, or Városliget, is the largest public park in Budapest and a major cultural hub located at the end of Andrássy Avenue. Established in the early 19th century, it is recognized as one of the world's first public parks and served as the main venue for the 1896 Millennium Exhibition. At the heart of the park sits Vajdahunyad Castle, an architectural curiosity designed to showcase various Hungarian building styles from Romanesque to Baroque. The park is also home to the world-renowned Széchenyi Thermal Bath, one of Europe's largest spa complexes, featuring memorable Neo-Baroque architecture. Other attractions within its boundaries include the Budapest Zoo and Botanical Garden, the Municipal Circus, and the House of Music Hungary, a contemporary architectural masterpiece. In winter, the lake in front of the castle transforms into one of Europe's largest and most atmospheric outdoor ice rinks. Currently, the park is undergoing significant redevelopment through the Liget Budapest Project, aimed at creating new museum spaces and enhancing green areas. It remains a beloved gathering place, offering a unique blend of nature, history, and leisure.
