Eisenach is a historic city in western Thuringia, globally renowned primarily for Wartburg Castle. The fortress has overlooked the city since 1067 and was the site of significant events, such as Martin Luther's translation of the New Testament in 1521. Eisenach is also the birthplace of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose legacy is extensively documented at the Bach House on Frauenplan. Situated at the edge of the Thuringian Forest, the city was a major center of the German automotive industry in the 19th and 20th centuries, a history preserved today at the 'automobile welt eisenach' museum. Architecture enthusiasts can explore Europe's largest continuous residential district of Wilhelminian-style villas here. The blend of religious history, musical tradition, and industrial development establishes Eisenach as a central site of German cultural history.
