Situated in the very heart of Schleswig-Holstein, between Kiel and Hamburg, is the city of Neumünster. Once the center of the Northern German cloth and leather industry, the city’s industrial past is comprehensively documented at the Tuch und Technik Textile Museum, which demonstrates the transition from hand-weaving to industrial fabric production using fully functional vintage looms. Architecturally, the city center is defined by the Vicelin Church, built in a classicist style in 1834 by Caspar von Saldern, offering a sharp contrast to the neo-Gothic town hall. The Designer Outlet Neumünster attracts visitors from far beyond the region, featuring an open-air, village-style layout. Nature enthusiasts head to the Neumünster Zoo, set within a spacious forested area and specializing entirely in European animal species. The Holstenhallen complex on the outskirts serves as a major hub for trade fairs, equestrian tournaments, and large cultural events. In the northern part of the city, the Einfelder See provides an accessible recreational area complete with bathing beaches and an eight-kilometer circular trail highly popular with joggers and walkers.
