Itzehoe, positioned in the gentle hills of the Holstein Geest and crossed by the Stör river, is the oldest town in the entire region of Holstein. Originally founded as a fortification around the year 810, the town breathes history on almost every corner. The center is strongly defined by the striking St. Laurentii Church, whose origins reach far back into the Middle Ages and which stands today as one of the important Baroque buildings in the area. Art enthusiasts are drawn to the Wenzel Hablik Museum, which displays the fascinating expressionist works and architectural visions of the artist who once lived in Itzehoe. Just outside the city limits lies the expansive Breitenburg Forest, offering handy conditions for long hikes and relaxing nature experiences. Furthermore, you can discover captivating prehistoric traces in the surrounding area, such as ancient Germanic burial mounds. Itzehoe is a place that seamlessly connects historical depth with cultural variety and a highly scenic location.
