The Laboe Naval Memorial near Kiel was originally constructed between 1927 and 1936 to commemorate the German naval dead of World War I, specifically those from the Battle of Jutland. The striking 85-meter-high tower characterizes the skyline of the Kiel Fjord with its unique architectural silhouette. At the base of the monument lies the U-995 submarine, preserved as a technical museum that illustrates the realities of naval combat.
