The Berlin Olympic Stadium is a monumental sports arena located in the Westend district, constructed for the 1936 Summer Olympics according to designs by architect Werner March. It replaced the former German Stadium and is distinguished by its neoclassical shell-limestone architecture. Originally part of the 'Reichssportfeld' and used for National Socialist propaganda, the stadium has since 1945 evolved into a venue for major democratic events. Between 2000 and 2004, the stadium underwent comprehensive modernization, adding its iconic, lightweight roof that complements the historic structure. It is the home ground of the Bundesliga football club Hertha BSC and serves as the regular venue for the DFB-Pokal final and international championships like the 2006 FIFA World Cup. With a seating capacity of approximately 74,000, it ranks among Germany's largest and most modern stadiums. In addition to sporting events, the arena hosts open-air concerts by international stars, highlighting its broad cultural significance.
