Linderhof Palace, located in the Graswang Valley near Oberammergau, is the smallest of the three palaces built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria and the only one he saw completed. Constructed between 1874 and 1878 on the site of a former hunting lodge, the building is designed in the Neo-Rococo style, heavily influenced by the French architecture of the Bourbon kings whom Ludwig greatly admired. The interior is characterized by extreme opulence, featuring the Hall of Mirrors, the Audience Chamber, and the dining room with the famous 'wishing table' that could be lowered to the kitchen. The extensive palace park integrates various fantastic structures such as the Venus Grotto, an artificial stalactite cave with a lake, inspired by scenes from Wagner's operas. Other highlights in the park include the Moorish Kiosk and the Moroccan House, reflecting the 19th-century fascination with Orientalism. Linderhof served as a place of absolute seclusion for Ludwig II, far removed from the court life in Munich.
