Maulbronn Monastery is a former Cistercian abbey in the Enz district of Baden-Württemberg, regarded as the best-preserved medieval monastery complex north of the Alps. Founded in 1147, the site combines architectural styles ranging from Romanesque to Late Gothic, providing a unique insight into the life and work of the Cistercian Order. Since 1993, the monastery has been a UNESCO World Heritage site. Notable features include the 'Paradise,' an early 13th-century narthex of the monastery church, as well as the cloister and the fountain house. Following the Reformation, the monastery was converted into a Protestant seminary school, attended by famous figures such as Johannes Kepler and Hermann Hesse. The complex is enclosed by defensive walls and includes numerous outbuildings that reflect the self-sufficient lifestyle of the monks. Today, the monastery functions as a museum, a venue for concerts, and the seat of a Protestant seminar.
