Highlights of 2026

1

Situated on the northern edge of the Black Forest where the Enz, Nagold, and Würm rivers converge, this famed "Gold City" has been the center of the German jewelry and watchmaking industry since the 18th century. Housed in the Reuchlinhaus, a masterpiece of 1950s architecture, the Jewelry Museum presents globally unique historical collections ranging from antiquity to the present day. Following its almost complete destruction in February 1945, the city was rebuilt in the functional, modernist style of the post-war era, giving it a distinct architectural character today. A major modern highlight is the Gasometer, a former natural gas storage tank that now displays massive 360-degree panoramic artworks by artist Yadegar Asisi. Functioning as the primary starting point for exploring the Northern Black Forest, Pforzheim marks the beginning of three of Germany's most famous long-distance hiking trails: the Westweg, Mittelweg, and Ostweg. Along the renatured riverbanks, visitors can enjoy relaxed cycling or discover the technical monuments related to the historic timber rafting trade.
