Ludwigsburg Residential Palace is one of the largest and most magnificent Baroque complexes in Europe and is often referred to as the 'Swabian Versailles'. It was built between 1704 and 1733 by order of Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg and served as the glittering center of courtly life. The architecture comprises a total of 452 rooms across 18 buildings, combining stylistic elements of Baroque, Rococo, and Classicism. Particularly impressive are the castle theater, one of the oldest preserved theaters in Europe with original stage technology, and the opulent apartments of the dukes. The palace is surrounded by extensive parklands known as 'Blooming Baroque' (Blühendes Barock), which attract numerous visitors annually. Inside, the complex houses several museums, including the Baroque Gallery and the Fashion Museum, displaying valuable exhibits from the history of Württemberg. As one of the few large residences, Ludwigsburg was largely spared from destruction during World War II.
