Bondara is a small coastal village in the Obock Region of northern Djibouti. It is situated on the western coast of the Red Sea, near the strategic Bab-el-Mandeb strait, which connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The village is primarily inhabited by members of the Afar people, whose livelihoods are closely tied to the sea. The main economic activities are traditional fishing and, to a lesser extent, livestock herding. The fishermen of Bondara use small boats to fish in the rich waters of the strait. The settlement itself is simple, consisting of traditional Afar huts adapted to the hot desert climate. Bondara is relatively isolated, accessible only by unpaved tracks, which makes connection to larger urban centers like Obock difficult. Despite its remoteness, the location holds some strategic importance due to its proximity to the international shipping lane. The surrounding landscape is an arid coastal plain with sparse vegetation. Village life is strongly influenced by the tides and the seasonal patterns of the sea.
