Weather…

Fort Henry, perched on Point Henry overlooking the city of Kingston and the entrance to the Rideau Canal, is a masterpiece of 19th-century British military engineering. Constructed between 1832 and 1837, the present limestone fortification was designed to replace an earlier War of 1812-era structure and protect the Royal Naval Dockyard and the strategic St. Lawrence River trade route from American aggression. As part of a larger defense system including several Martello towers, Fort Henry was intended to be the primary defensive anchor for Eastern Canada. Although it never saw direct combat, it served as a vital deterrent and a major garrison for British imperial troops until 1870, and later for Canadian forces. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a premier living history museum, famous for the Fort Henry Guard's precision drills and artillery demonstrations. The fort's massive walls, dry ditch, and intricate tunnel systems provide an immersive experience of Victorian military life. Its elevated position gives panoramic views of the Thousand Islands and Lake Ontario, symbolizing Kingston's historical role as the first capital of a united Canada.
