Hole-in-the-Wall Lighthouse (Bahamas)

Weather…

The Hole-in-the-Wall Lighthouse is situated on the southernmost tip of Great Abaco Island within the Bahamas. Constructed in 1836 by the British Imperial Lighthouse Service, it stands as one of the oldest navigational aids in the archipelago. The tower rises approximately 26 meters above the rugged limestone cliffs, featuring a distinctive white body and a red lantern room. For over 150 years, it was manned by dedicated lightkeepers until its automation in 1995. The name originates from a nearby natural limestone arch that once allowed small boats to pass through, though the arch famously collapsed during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Today, the area remains a remote and historically significant landmark, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean and the surrounding wilderness of the Abaco National Park. It continues to serve as a vital guide for maritime traffic navigating the treacherous waters of the Providence Channels.
