Great Guana Cay is a slender, 7-mile-long island in the Abacos, celebrated for its spectacular beaches and proximity to the world's third-largest barrier reef. The settlement maintains its historical Loyalist roots, characterized by brightly painted cottages and a close-knit community of seafaring families. It features one of the longest continuous stretches of white sand beach in the Bahamas, offering world-class snorkeling directly from the shore. In recent years, the cay has become a destination for high-end luxury development, notably the Bakers Bay Golf & Ocean Club at its northwestern tip. Despite this modernization, much of the island remains a tranquil sanctuary for native flora and fauna, including migratory birds. The social heart of the island is centered around its beachfront establishments, which are legendary among the international yachting community. Geographically, the cay serves as a buffer between the deep Atlantic Ocean and the shallow, turquoise waters of the Sea of Abaco.
