Cooper's Town is the northernmost major settlement on the island of Great Abaco in the Bahamas. The town was founded in the 1870s by the Cooper family from Grand Bahama, who gave the town its name. Originally, residents made a living from harvesting sea sponges and growing grapefruits, which brought modest prosperity to the region in the late 19th century. Cooper's Town is nationally known as the home of Hubert Ingraham, who served as Prime Minister of the Bahamas for three terms. Geographically, the settlement is located on a narrow neck of land surrounded by the turquoise waters of the Little Abaco Bank. The local economy is now primarily based on commercial fishing, particularly the harvesting of lobsters and conch. Despite its political significance, the town has remained a quiet, close-knit community valued for its traditional Bahamian way of life and hospitality.
